Rome: A unique, well-rounded view on the city, and deeper insight into culture and history Past Review
By Sonali B (English & Economics, Bucknell University) for
John Cabot University - Study Abroad in Rome, Italy
I've become more open-minded, and more prone to taking risks. It has made me a braver and more outgoing person (from living by myself, figuring out how to live on my own, all while knowing that John Cabot would be supporting me if something were to go wrong).

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I had a hands-on learning experience that integrated knowledge of the city with critical thinking skills, knowledge of history, and analytical thinking. Not to mention, I had a great time learning. I wanted to spend time on the work I did, and I often found myself reading more on what I had learned, and using a lot of the things I learned in later coursework. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
We were relatively close to campus but far enough that we were able to establish a degree of independence. However, the staff made themselves available promptly and efficiently for any living issues we had faced (usually day to day things such as electricity or laundry questions). |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I felt safe in my neighborhood. I was in proximity to classes and nightlife, so I got the best of both worlds in Rome. I needed to buy sheets, but cookware was provided. There were many restaurants and stores in the area, so the neighborhood was really easy to live in and work my way around. |
* Food: |
I didn't buy a meal plan, but the people that did were not unhappy with it. For the most part, I bought groceries and cooked myself. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
They had a lot of day trips that were fun to take, and they had relationships with tour companies that were worthwhile. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I didn't have any health issues, so I can't really answer this. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
