Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
You have to learn to do a lot without direction. There are many books for each course and you can choose which one you want to use |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Universities are much different in Germany than in the United States. There is less direction from professors, for example, in my area of study there is no set textbook for each course. Many books are recommended, but it is up to the students to pick which book to read and decide how to prepare for each class. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I found housing before I left in an apartment with friends of a friend I knew in Wurzburg. There are also websites (this is a good one: http://www.wg-gesucht.de/) where many apartments for rent are listed. |
* Food: |
In the cafeteria on campus (the Mensa) there is always a vegetarian option. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
beer gardens, folk festivals, and Christmas markets are great! |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
Wurzburg is small and I always felt safe. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | I lived on a pretty tight budget, I would not have cut much out. |

* Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | Advanced |
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? | Advanced German and a German literature class |
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition? |
