Greece: Paradise on Earth! Past Review

KIIS: Greece - Experience Greece, Summer Program
I absolutely loved this trip. It gave me the opportunity to go to a country I would otherwise not likely have been able to visit. Studying abroad really does open your eyes to the world and other cultures.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The workload was not bad at all. The professors understood that we did not want to be in our rooms working on homework, but that we wanted to be exploring Greece. There was some work that had to be done, but it was definitely manageable. A lot of our class time was spent out at archaeological sites and museums. Because we did not have a host university, there was no real difference between American classes. We simply met in odd places (i.e. the roof of our hotel in Athens). |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Our professors were very knowledgeable of the country. We had 20 students on our trip and we were able to get to know one another pretty well, as well as our professors. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
The food was fantastic. We had some picky eaters on our trip, but they were always able to find something to eat. There is a place behind the Hotel Attalos in Athens called the Grill House that has the best gyros I have ever eaten in my life. A couple of doors down, their is a restaurant called Crepa Crepa that sells both sweet and sandwich-like crepes that are phenomenal. But, you can't really go wrong with the food. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
On Siphnos, we were able to witness a festival where the locals light the ancient smoke towers with red smoke that were once used for communication across the island. Our Athens hotel had a wonderful view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
There was some worry of safety, because the Greeks were protesting current changes within the government. Luckily we were able to avoid a lot of the danger. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
