KIIS: Salzburg - Experience Salzburg (Summer)

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was hardly worthwhile, was a nice visit but the program was so poorly put together.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Academic rigor was excellent, but the courses could have easily been taken in the states. There was nothing that made it an international experience academically. We learned nothing significant about the area and there were very few connections to the local area in the classes. The level of education was good but not worth going to Salzburg for.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Program direction was less than satisfactory. Schedule was expanded shortly before going which made for more time at the hostel and less time to explore. Director seemed to have their interest in mind more than the experience of the students. Main group excursion was cancelled and never rescheduled.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Living arrangements were okay.

* Food:

Food was okay, but not very healthy.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $150

  • Untersberg
* What could be improved?
  • Class schedule needs to end earlier
  • More group excursions
  • Less focus on performance.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? That the director didn't put a lot of time into setting up a good program and certainly didn't have the student's best interest in mind.
