It was definitely worthwhile. I learned so much about Danish culture and how it's similar/different to ours.

KIIS put 7 girls in one room for 3 weeks. That wasn't cool at all.

Felt extremely safe

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would love to go to Denmark again, I have never felt so connected to a place. I'm going back one day and I don't know if I'll come back again!

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I spent at least $150 a week on food
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Budget yourself out a weekly budget and then divide that into daily budgets. I should've done that.

How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

Not much encouragement since the Danes speak English.

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Beginner
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? Japanese 102 a year before... have never taken Danish
Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Try to learn basic phrases even if the people of that country do know english

  • lots of reading in History class, I gave up being prepared
