I learned how to better live on my own, budget, and find new social and educational opportunities.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The professors and teachers assistants were knowledgeable and approachable. Some classes were large, but most broke down into smaller groups for discussions. Workload was on par with Middlebury.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The administration was pretty hands-off. However, they were responsive if I ever had a question or a concern. Though it was a large school in a big city, I felt I had resources to help me.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My living arrangements weren't luxurious, but the location was incredible. I had my own bathroom as well, and could walk to class.

* Food:

No dining halls at King's. There were cafeterias in the libraries but the food didn't look great.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I enjoyed it because I joined groups on campus. It is hard to integrate into the culture if you don't join a group or sports club. Once you do, the people are great. Again, it is a big school, so you don't see the same faces often, but I enjoyed the student population.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Not too applicable to me.

* Safety:

London felt very safe. It is a big city so it is important to be careful, but King's is in a great neighborhood.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Yes, I loved living in London. King's offered good classes that helped me with my major. I enjoyed the culture of the school.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is very, very expensive. I would recommend cooking a lot, as groceries are not too expensive. I would recommend budgeting beforehand.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Yes, budget, cook. Walk as much as possible.

The Networker
An active student leader, it was important for you to network abroad as well. Once overseas, you sought out student clubs, volunteered with local organizations, or attended community events. You encouraged your friends join you, and often considered how you could reflect your international experiences in a resume.

Comments: This was a challenging course. As with most classes at King's, it was lecture based with discussions to go over problems. The professor moved quickly through the material. 100% of final grade based on the exam.

Comments: This class followed lecture and discussion format. Was proof based. The professor was very engaged and the material was pretty interesting. Professor made himself available for questions.

British Empires

Comments: This was a great class on British imperial history. Starting with the American Revolution, it covered British influence throughout the world up until present day. I enjoyed learning about British history while in London, and thought it covered interesting theories on British imperialism. Lots of reading and two papers.

Comments: This course was a nice introduction to logic. Covered the introduction to formalizing logic and using it in philosophical study. Used problem sets and lectures to convey the course material.
