London is amazing! Past Review
By Ifunanya N (Biochemistry, Wellesley College) - abroad from 09/16/2019 to 12/13/2019 with
King's College London: London - Direct Enrollment & Exchange
I learned how to be independent. I learned how to be on my own. Sometimes being alone without my friends from Wellesley made me sad, but all in all, it was very worthwhile, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The academic rigor of this program was not as intense as Wellesley college, but it was a good way for me to learn without the pressure of grades, and I realized I was actually excited to learn the material. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I had no issues with the country. The UK was a beautiful place and I was happy to be there and explore the cultures. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
(Wolfson House) At first, I really liked my dorm. It was perfectly convenient. However, towards the end of the semester, there were always issues with the hot water supply, and that was painfully inconvenient. |
* Food: |
I made my own meals, and that was AMAZING! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
This is mostly my fault. I was trying to get away from people when I studied in London, so I made an intentional effort to become a homebody and not integrate myself with the local cultures. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Healthcare in the UK is amazing. I was never sick, but I was confident that even if I fell sick, the price wouldn't kill me. |
* Safety: |
People say London is not safe, however, even though I lived in the middle of the city, I felt perfectly safe. Nothing bad ever happened to me while in London, so it was very safe for me. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I had so much fun being in the UK. I was able to hang out with my high school friends who are studying in the UK. I was able to travel around Europe. I took classes I liked for fun, and I learned a lot. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
London is expensive, and I also decided to stop saving while abroad. I spend all my time at Wellesley saving, so my abroad experience was going to be my opportunity to splurge. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | food: $150/week. Other expenses (Transportation, parties): $100/week |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | I'm the worst person to ask about money-saving tips. |
