Kudan Institute of Japanese Language: Tokyo - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
While the school was somewhat of a disappointment, everything else about the country is incredible and well worth the cost.

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Spring 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Many students complained that they were wasting time reviewing what they had already learned but the administration did nothing.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Japanese families are wonderful, but it's very different from the very open lifestyle I'm used to.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

A different culture than anything we're used to in this country.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Railroad passes, subway passes, entrance fees, commuting is so much more espensive than you can imagine.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

I believe it could have been a lot more.

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Direct Enrollment
