Australia Study of Evidence Based Practice really broadened my knowledge of my future field of study Past Review

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It has impacted my cultural awareness-especially going to a country so far away with a much different cultural aspect to it. It was very interesting to learn the differences in our field of study and that is something that I can apply in my future to make me a better speech-language pathologist.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Workload was through my school in where we would write an overview of what we learned at the different speakers and lectures and a group project in the end to reflect on our time studying in Australia.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

IES directors were good about providing us with information about the country and things that we would need to know while we were there being from a foreign country. The size was small and good to get a lot of information. The IES directors were very supportive and always made it clear that we could reach them at any time and they would be there for us throughout our entirety of our time in Australia.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The hotels we stayed in were in convenient areas to the cities of things to do and close by transportation. The staff at the Quest housing from both cities were very helpful in helping us find places to go and things to do and the easiest ways to get around the cities.

* Food:

Quality of food was good, no disappointments.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

We had many opportunities to see different things in the cities we were visiting through IES, especially the cultural activity in Melbourne which let us see the different cultures in the city. In Sydney, IES planned a lot of tourist activities that we were all interested in- the zoo, wildlife park, aquarium, jet boat ride, Sydney Opera House and dinners at restaurants that were definitely things we wanted to see while in Sydney.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

no problems with health care. I liked how we had cell phones that we were able to reach each other while we were abroad since not all of us had international phone plans. It made me feel safer.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Anyone would benefit from this type of program because it exposes you to different ways that professionals work in our area of study. I think it is well worth it and will definitely help in my future as a speech-language pathologist that I wouldn't have been able to get in a classroom lecture.
