Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The academic experience was different than mine at Towson in the amount of school work, but it was interesting to see the differences. It wasn't a harder learning environment: just different.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

They had a lot of welcome week activities, but it was very stressful because I knew nothing about how to actually get to the campuses when I was in my accommodation. If they had included a map of Leeds that was specialized to show the accommodation and the two main campuses and "points of interest" like the closest Morrisions, cash points, etc. that would have been insanely helpful!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I really liked the location of this accommodation. It is one of the cheapest ones and really not bad for the price of it. It's only a 15 minute walk from Leeds Met's city centre campus and about a 45 minute walk from the Headingley Campus. It's super close to the shops and places to go out downtown. On a nice night it's definitely possible to walk to where you're going for your night out!

* Food:

n/a, we made our own food since we had a kitchen

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I went to Wales, Edinburgh, Italy, Bath, London, Stonehenge, Whitby... loved it all! I love the UK and met a ton of wonderful people while studying there. I would come back to England in a heartbeat.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt very safe in Leeds.There was a bit of a problem with a gang that was targeting students but the City Council immediately started stepping up the amount of police that there were around and I never felt unsafe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? My budget for everything per week was £120 and I think I stuck pretty closey. You will probably need more money than you think for groceries and nights out. As a student abroad don't skimp on important things like going to visit places. That's really important!
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Make a budget, but have room to go over the budget as well!

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The location (Leeds) was a good one. Not expensive like London, but a huge student town so there was always a ton to do.
* What could be improved?
  • More information from Leeds Met! They didn't make things easy. At times it was really stressful working with them.
