By A student (University of California - Davis) - abroad from 06/18/2018 to 08/24/2018 with
Linguistic Horizons: Study Abroad and Intern in La Coruña
I grew so much as a person, learned a new language, and made so many irreplaceable memories.
Personal Information
How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 1 month - 6 months |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
I was put in classroom situations that were extremely encouraging for my learning of the Spanish language and equipped me with the tools I needed to improve it! |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
I always knew what was going on and all questions were answered promptly! It was extremely organized! |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I had my own bedroom which gave me a safe space to retreat to, and the apartment had girls I could talk to in order to practice my Spanish with! |
* Food: |
The food was amazing! I loved eating there, it certainly contributed to my love for the culture. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I was 100% integrated! Very few people there spoke English, so when I was talking to people who were not also part of my program, I was forced to integrate myself not only through language but through behavior and culture. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I had access to everything I needed, it was actually much cheaper than in the U.S. for the exact same medications. |
* Safety: |
Much, much safer than a lot of places in the U.S. Everyone should still be careful as you would travelling anywhere, but nothing bad happened! |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I would absolutely do it through them again. They made planning easy, and supported me perfectly. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
I personally ate out WAY too much instead of cooking at home and shopped too much, so I spent a lot but that was my fault. Groceries are very affordable there and if you cook at home enough it is absolutely doable. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 200 but that is my fault! |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Cook at home at least once a day if not more!! It is super cheap there anyways! |
