LSE GENERAL COURSE Past Review
By Anran X (Economics, Trinity University) for
London School of Economics (LSE): London - General Course, Year-Long Study Abroad Programme
Totally! I got to have a year worth of British/European experience and got the chance to know the other part of the world from a close distance. I also learnt so much more about myself, made great friends, and make great connections worldwide.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
there is a lot of stuff for you to study and go through but mandatory homework is definitely manageble...lots of the studying occurs outside of the classroom. no midterms or homeworks..only exams at the end of your year solely decide your grade....lots of mathematics for economics classes! |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Mark Hoffman is very helpful as the program director and the LSE general course program is very well-organized and all the faculties and staff in the school treat us just the same as normal students. Our program also had lots of activities for the gereral course students! |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
London has everything to offer...however it is quite expensive so if you could get a kitchen to cook for yourself every now and then you will be able to save some money for cider |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Travelling across europe for the christmas break, attending royal wedding, going to wimbledon for some excellent professioal tennis etc....those are arranged by myself... |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
it is mostly safe...but since the riots in london happened in the summer, nobody could say for sure how safe it was...but the central area is generally safe and well guarded by the police force...then again, london is a metropolitan city where terrorist threat is still high |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 100 dollars? might be a bit less than that but london is definitely not cheap in terms of food |
