London School of Economics (LSE): London - General Course, Year-Long Study Abroad Programme

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about time an people management. How to budget and live in a foreign country and how to network and work toward reaching my career goals.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Don't fall into the trap thinking you need to work the whole year. There is very little teaching and the professors don't care about your progress. If you work diligently for the last 3 months you can get all firsts.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The general course dean was helpful at times, but everyone else was almost entirely useless. It is completely hit and miss with your academic advisor. Just try and make good connections with class teachers.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Very centrally located, you can meet people from all over the world if you live in a good dorm. However it was very expensive and wasn't the best facilities.

* Food:

Was not provided. London has incredible food though.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

You make it what it is. If you don't try and immerse yourself you won't be immersed. But on the other hand you are living in central London and feel like a Brit after a couple months.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not easily. London is arguably the most expensive city in the world.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 400$ or more
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try and live in a residence hall that provides at least one meal a day, preferably bankside hall.
