An Unforgettable Year In London Past Review
By A student (Mathematics, Trinity University) - abroad from 09/28/2015 to 06/10/2016 with
London School of Economics (LSE): London - General Course, Year-Long Study Abroad Programme
I have learned a lot from the courses. They were challenging but being able to take classes from well-known professors in the fields is very rewarding.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Very intense course work. Teaching methods are very different comparing to the US. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The dean of the General Course has been very helpful throughout the year. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The dorm I lived in is very close to campus. However, it is very expensive and needs renovation. |
* Food: |
Food in London is generally expensive. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
There are a lot of cultural events going on in the city on a daily basis. It is very easy to get involved. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
London feels safe overall. Avoid walking alone late at night and in dark alleyways. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
The general course program is very demanding comparing to most of the other study abroad programs. All students need to spend a lot of time focusing on school work, which cuts down on leisure time. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
London is very expensive. Can easily go over budget with lack of planning. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $300 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | It is very expensive to dine out. It normally costs around 15 to 20 bucks for a simple meal, and 40 to 50 bucks for a fancier meal. Cooking on your own or selecting dorm catering can save a lot of money. Also, keep an eye out for cheap flights. Can save a lot of money for traveling. |

|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | I did not receive as much information regarding to the teaching and grading system in the UK before going on the program. It was a big shock when I first got there, finding out that a hundred percent of the course grade comes from one final exam. |
