Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My family came with me, so we rented an apartment that was not affiliated with the program at 1 Piazza de Pesce. It was very nice.

My family came with me, so we rented a non-program apartment right next to the Ponte Vecchio. The location was ideal, and the apartment was very beautiful. One suggestion would be to purchase a fan and also a plug-in insect repellent device, as there are a lot of mosquitoes.

* Food:

There are many good restaurants in Florence. I would suggest researching with guidebooks before hand and asking the teachers, as they will help youfind the best and most authentic places. Eating at home is also a very good way to save money, and there are many things available at the grocery store that are delicious, easy to cook (such as fresh pasta) and inexpensive.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Florence and the rest of Italy are extremely beautiful. The whole country seems to be overflowing with art, amazing museums and wonderful food. Do you research beforehand, and you will be sure to find the things that appeal most to you!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Remember the exchange rate! It is best to withdraw large lump sums from the ATMs (Called Bancomats) because you will minimize the amount of fees that you are charged. Write down what you spend. If you are on a tight budget, eat (and drink, if you intend to) in more often then not. Protect your purse or wallet.

Comments: It was a challenging course with an extremely knowledgeable teacher. We did not take field trips with this class, but the teacher was always helpful and was very willing to recommend everything from art museums to restaurants to the students. The class was mildly difficult, requiring outside work and a lot of dedication, but the professor was more than willing to help students.
