Captivating Past Review

Loyola University Maryland: Newcastle upon Tyne -

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned to live and adapt to a foreign environment. It forced me to step out of my comfort zone in order to make my time there worthwhile. I wished I chose to stay there for the year instead of a semester.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Most of the classes are intros, so the material is nothing new. If you do the independent work, you will do well.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Fair demands of students

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

England is not known for their cuisine.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It's on you on whether you want to integrate with the local culture.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

There was never a time in which I did not feel unsafe in Newcastle.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The conversion rate didn't help, it was difficult to budget.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 100-150 pounds per week
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Make a budget list and do research about the city.
