Overall Experience
This experience was entirely worthwhile and it didn't hurt that the backdrop to it all was gorgeous Maastricht. I learned to be more independent and to really find happiness doing the things I wanted and felt I needed to do, even though they ended up being completely different from what I had imagined my study abroad experience ... - Tufts University View Entire Review

About

The Center for European Studies (CES) at Maastricht University prides itself on providing the best european study abroad experiences inside & outside the classroom. For more than 30 year CES has been organising comprehensive, English language study abroad programmes for international students.

Semester Programmes Includes:

  • Business & Economics in Europe: The Business & Economics in Europe programme is designed to give students a greater understanding of the international business practices in Europe and the economic policies of the European Union. What better place to study business and economics than in Maastricht, the Netherlands? Maastricht gained international fame as the birthplace of the Euro, and is located between the major economic centres of Brussels, London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam, making it the ideal place for educating and training the global business leaders and economists of tomorrow.

  • Humanities & Social Sciences in Europe: Founded by the Romans, controlled by the Spanish, besieged by the French, and occupied by the Germans, the picturesque city of Maastricht personifies how Europe’s history has served as a prologue to the present. At the crossroads of three borders and cultures, it is the perfect setting for students to examine socio-economic, cultural, environmental and political perspectives and consider how they shape debates about human behaviour, shared values and belonging in today’s Europe.

  • Politics, Law & International Relations In Europe: Human rights, democracy and the rule of law are at the core values of the European Union (EU). Yet in light of challenges such as migration and societal integration, Brexit and the rise of Euro-scepticism, the future of the EU is far from certain. In a world of converging cultures and different political and legal systems, Politics, Law and International Relations in Europe students explore how policy-makers negotiate between member states with a range of different nationalities, languages and agendas.

  • Psychology & Neuroscience in Europe: Maastricht, the Netherlands, forms a unique environment for studying psychology and neuroscience. Maastricht University specialises in cognitive and biological psychology and its unique research infrastructure enables groundbreaking study of the brain and behavior. It is home to a European Centre of Excellence that combines state-of-the art technology (three MRI scanners of 9.4, 7 and 3 Tesla) with clinical know-how, access to patients and expert post-acquisition processing of data. During this programme, students can compare the scientific scientific research methods of the Netherlands to those of your home country. They also follow courses and seminars taught by leading experts and gain insight into the latest topics in psychology and research, in a European setting.

  • Public Health & Medicine in Europe: Europeans enjoy some of the highest quality and most affordable health care in the world. However, European health systems are under pressure due to an ageing population, innovations and a demand for more citizen-centred services. During this programme, students gain a greater understanding of public health policies and medical achievements and practise in Europe. They examine the different attitudes to health in various European countries and compare their health care systems with the market driven system of the United States. Students can also deepen their knowledge of genetics, immunology or biology, gain insight into contemporary European health issues, discuss medical case studies and develop practical medical skills.
