Macquarie University: Sydney - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was the best semester of my life. I learned alot about myself and my friends back home. I know who I can count on and I know which friends that I have made that I will keep in touch with. I now have a thrist for travel. I am already going to San Diego this Spring Break to meet up with a friend I made in Australia.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Amy Ryan was amazing!!! The Stamford office was hard to sometimes reach.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Really nice and RAs put on some great programs.

* Food:

I did all my own shopping or went out to eat. Don't eat on campus!!! People got food posioning.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Great Barrier free was amazing!!!!!! Go there. Blue mountains was alot of fun. Go on trips with clubs on campus. I went on a wine tour and made more friends through it.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Sydney feels much safer than New York City. I did not get sick to where I needed to go to healthcare facilities.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? I got $295 USD each month from the program on my debit card. I cooked most of my food. So i had leftover money on that to buy other things. I spent $2000 of my own money for the semester.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The optional Great Barrier Reef trip only had carry-on luggage paid for and there was an optional day of activities.
