Marymount University: Traveling - Counseling Deployed Military and their Families, Germany

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Definitely. I would have liked a little more time on the bases, but it was truly enlightening.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Leadership, educational opportunity, and overall experience were fantastic. The EBACA conference could have had some better programs, but that is not the fault of Marymount.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The rooms were fine, but the beds were quite uncomfortable.

* Food:

I just didn't love the food in Germany. I don't eat pork or red meat, so finding food was challenging.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I especially loved our visits to the military bases, but the Germans were very hospitable.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The bus/van drivers were a little sketchy at times.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Be prepared to eat a lot of fried food and bring a bigger blanket. Also-- watch your Euros. Things cost a bit more in Europe.
