Maynooth University: Maynooth - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I just feel so much more cultured, i realized there is life beyond the trinity bubble, and I definitely want to take at least one semester off after school to travel and see the world!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I really enjoyed the fact that abroad was "easy" because I felt like I was less stressed and therefore I was actually able to enjoy the courses rather than try to take down everything the professor was saying because I knew I would be tested on it later in the semester. I really enjoyed the professors, most were very knowledgeable and easy to approach.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

strengths:professors were fantastic. Very knowledgeable and helpful. weaknesses: other administrative people were often rude (mail people)

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I really liked my living situation, even though my flatmates were super messy. They helped me get acclimated to the Irish lifestyle.

* Food:

CHILL!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

IFSA-Butler took us to Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was incredible learning about "The Troubles"

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I never felt unsafe in Ireland. Maynooth had a part time Garda, and Dublin the most trouble you would encounter would be a drunk old man. Always felt comfortable, even late at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 150euro?
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? the people at the airport stamped me all the way through the 3 months, so i really didn't have to register with the garda. that was a complete waste of money.

Comments: This class was decently challenging but insanely interesting. Probably my favorite class I have taken in my undergraduate studies thus far. The professor was absolutely brilliant, as was the material we were studying.
Credit Transfer Issues: Get more classes approved than you plan on taking.
