Study abroad at two different University of Paris campuses Past Review

MICEFA: Paris - Study Abroad in Various Universities of France
I loved my study abroad program. I got to speak French every day, I got to live in Paris, I didn't have to go to class if I didn't want to, and I didn't need a fake ID. Life was sweet.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
Honestly, I learned more from just wandering around Paris then I did from my classes, but I imagine that for a different person, things would be different. I chose to take easy classes and spend most of my time just hanging out. Other people do other things. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I had to find housing. My first room was in the apartment of a crazy woman who stole my computer and the cops made me pay her to get it back because I wasn't a French citizen. The second place was a little studio on the far end of town.

The location of the first place was great, the location of the second place, less so. |
* Food: |
French food is fabulous. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
There were no non-academic aspects of my program. Personally, I spent most of my time either drinking, going to museums or doing some combination of the two. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
I lived alone in Paris. The program really didn't have any say on whether or not I felt safe. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | way too much. 100 bucks? |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | The Euro and the dollar have a miserable exchange rate. Be prepared to spend your entire college fund in a semester. |
Language
Language acquisition improvement? |
Living in a francophone country definitely improved my French language skills. I couldn't put together more than a few sentences before; now I can hold conversations. |

A Look Back
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | Paris is great. It's expensive, but it's worth it. |

Comments: | This was a studio art class where we looked at existing art and tried to rework it. The teacher was knowledgeable, the class was fun, and I got a B. |

French art from the 19th to early 20th century |
Course Department: | via University of Conneticut, via MICEFA |
Instructor: | Huhn |
Instruction Language: | English |
Comments: | This class dealt with the major themes of 19th century french art. We went to museums every week, and it was really great. Plus, it was my only English language course, so that made it easier than the other classes. |

L'art francais du 19eme siecle |
Course Department: | via MICEFA |
Instructor: | Peignet |
Instruction Language: | French |
Comments: | This art covered french art from the 19th century leading to the 20th. It basically was the same as the previous class; I took it because each class offered only 3 credits, and I needed 4 credits of an introductory class to transfer to my home institution. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | I don't know if the class has been transferred to my home institution yet. |

La Langue Francais |

Comments: | Just a general French language course. Nothing fun, nothing fancy. Don't remember much about it, just that it was hellishly long and I hated the professor. |
Credit Transfer Issues: | I don't know if the class has been transferred to my home institution yet. |
