Designed for students with advanced Portuguese language proficiency, the Middlebury School in Brazil provides a fully immersive academic and cultural experience that fosters linguistic fluency through meaningful engagement with Brazilian society. Students enroll directly at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), taking courses alongside Brazilian peers in a wide range of disciplines taught entirely in Portuguese. Guided by the Middlebury Language Pledge, participants strengthen their language skills through daily interaction both inside and outside the classroom while gaining a deeper understanding of Brazil's history, culture, and contemporary issues.

As the largest country in Latin America, Brazil is renowned for its cultural diversity, natural beauty, and regional richness. The program is based in Florianópolis, the capital of the southern state of Santa Catarina, a city of approximately 300,000 residents situated on a picturesque island along Brazil's Atlantic coast. Known for its stunning beaches, vibrant arts scene, and welcoming atmosphere, Florianópolis offers an ideal environment for language immersion and cultural exploration while maintaining the energy of a thriving university community.

The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina is one of Brazil's leading public universities, enrolling more than 30,000 students and offering comprehensive academic opportunities across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and the arts.
