It was absolutely worthwhile. I improved my Spanish and successfully learned about and integrated into another culture.

I went to visit a Doctor 3 times in Madrid. Middlebury made it incredibly easy for me to schedule my appointments and deal with everything I had to.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Madrid came at a time when I needed it. Simply, it was an incredible experience. I felt Spanish.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

If you manage your finances correctly then you should have no problem. Also, dining out and enjoying the city was not very expensive.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Spend extravagantly on things you love and be frugal with everything else.

Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? Be courageous and try to speak as much as possible. While it may be very difficult, try to branch out from the Middlebury crew and meet/speak with locals.

Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
