Middlebury Schools Abroad: Middlebury in Poitiers

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was absolutely worthwhile. I gained much more cultural perspective from my immersion in France than I had ever managed to fully grasp from a classroom, and I made connections that not only made my time there better, but continue to impact my way of thinking and acting back home.

I had a really amazing time, and many of the things I loved about my experience in Poitiers were things I hadn’t expected going into it.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Having a host family helped a lot with costs, but Poitiers was relatively affordable for what I covered on my own.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Try to get into a routine once you have your footing. Plan for the types of expenses you’ll need to cover on a regular basis and pay attention to their baseline costs in your area so that you can build yourself a budget and not feel overwhelmed by a different financial situation.
