Individual Course Reviews

Course Name/Rating:

The Psychology of Fear and Terrorism

Course Department: Psychology
Instructor: Dr. Kurt Thaw
Instruction Language: English
Comments: The main topic of the course was analyzing terrorism and the psychology behind specific terrorist events which was often difficult to discuss but important to learn about. Dr. Thaw was always well-prepared and enriched discussions with his knowledge about terrorism. As a class we took field trips to certain sites in Italy and Germany where terrorist events actually occurred in history which made it easier as a student to apply class material to real-world settings. Traveling abroad and sharing new experiences with fellow classmates and the professor also made it easier to participate in class activities and discussions. Lastly, students were assessed on participation in the class and on a oral presentation of a specific terrorist event in which each student selected a topic, researched it extensively, and prepared the presentation before leaving for the trip.
