What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, I gained alot, mainly a better view on America even though I went to Japan.

Personal Information

The term and year this program took place: Spring 2009

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Almost Perfect, somethings can improve.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

They dont work with you all the way sometimes, you have to do things by your self.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

dont let the name international house fool you, Its mostly american and only 3 Japanese people that help everyone, so you will be speaking in English all the time at this place and will not be able to get the best experience possible.

* Food:

Japanese food is great!!! except if you don't eat meats or pork then it sucks. I don't eat pork and it was very hard, but everyone can manage so no worries.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Some Japanese people are racist, but they will never tell you or bother you about it directly, you will feel it 100%.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Japan is so safe, you can walk outside any time 24/7 and nothing will happen. Many students do things really late at night, it felt like I was the most dangerous person there and I would never hurt a fly. I love Japan for being so safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? it would be really bad if you don't have a scholarship but every student that goes to NUFS gets it so it makes everything a little better.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

The course was not as tough as I wanted it to be.

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Its a great program, but if you find another that gives you Homestay then that is for the best if you really want to learn the language. if you just want to make more american friends then go here.
