What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My experience abroad solidified the notion that I've always had - I want to work abroad or travel within my career path. Traveling is something I must be doing.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

NTU has a very rigorous Business program. The way classes were set up were different from what I was used to - say, 4 credit hour classes but once a week instead of multiple classes a week... That seemed to become overbearing and tedious. Also, what struck me as a difference is that I noticed students there are very serious and dedicated to their work.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Their office of Study Abroad had many workers that were willing and able to help. Feedback was provided with any uncertainties. The last semester, NTU had approximately 500 exchange students (excluding international full-time students) and most people were happy with receiving feedback in a timely fashion. However, one problem a lot of us encountered was the system of course registration..

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

Food is actually very inexpensive in Singapore. Dining out is a must if you want to get away from the local food. There is an abundance of restaurants to choose from!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Many events were arranged by other exchange students...

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Singapore is very safe - I never felt endangered... Healthcare I am unaware of... I understand medications may be difficult to get a hold of so be prepared to bring enough in advance.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? n/a

Language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? None
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Exchange

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • People
  • Ease of traveling
  • Large amount of fellow exchange students
* What could be improved?
  • Course Registration Process
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? A student considering studying in Singapore should be aware that the course load will be very difficult. The semester is short and fast and a lot of information is crammed into that time... But also, if they are interested in traveling within the Southeast Asia area, and can manage time well, it is very inexpensive to do so!
