National College of Art and Design: Dublin - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I learned a lot about being independent, about running your own exhibition, about integrating into culture in general.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The intensity of this academic program was as lot lower than what I was used to at my home university but the cultural experience was still amazing.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

It's really difficult to find a place to live in Dublin! I was fortunate enough to live right near school but that's because I arrived two weeks early in order to find a place to live.

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

They have a school nurse whom you can make appointments with. It's really accessible.

* Safety:

Dublin is overall a very safe city, I never have any bad experiences but the rules of safety still apply. If you're walking home at night, take busy main streets, keep valuable out of sight, walk with purpose, etc.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Dublin is expensive as far as food goes.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • People
  • involvement of students
  • the city itself
* What could be improved?
  • the rigor of the program
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? How extremely difficult and stressful it is to find a place to live on such short notice (the school led me to believe it would be easy and that was not the case.)

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
