My time in Singapore! July 18, 2024

By (Biology, Brandeis University) - abroad from 01/15/2024 to 05/11/2024 with

National University of Singapore: Singapore - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a lot more respect for others and also myself. I feel that I learned a lot from the locals even if I couldn't name it. I feel like I myself have become a better person after staying there for the semester.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was rigor but also enjoyable, the professors truly cared and the students were overall extremely nice and helpful!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Perfect!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Housing was great, very accommodating!

* Food:

The food was amazing, both at the school and in the university!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

It felt as if I was living there myself, the greatest respect I have ever received.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Extremely safe, not a serious crime, a crime of any sort for that matter, in sight in my time there.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

The University was amazing, it offered so many different courses that fit any interests. On top of that, the country is just amazing, there is none like it. Plus, you can travel between Southeast Asia easily (and for cheap).

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

It is a little bit similar to America at bigger more fancier restaurants but overall, you can find just about anything for cheap if you go to the right places.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Depending on the amount of times you go out, between $100-200.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Just be smart, don't overspend just like you wouldn't overspend at home.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
