Incredible experience & environment to learn Chinese econ dev and tech Past Review

It was everything I wanted from my study abroad experience, and more. It's hard to sum up everything, but here are a few: as an econ major interested in tech I received a deep dive on modern Chinese econ and tech developments from courses, lectures, and trips (for example to Shenzhen). I also got to live in Shanghai and get to know the vibrant, high-growth, and international city, which was simply a dream and this trip made me resolute to eventually return to Shanghai to work. I also took the time almost every other weekend to take a trip to some other area of China (rural and urban, first, second, and third tier) to gain a broader and more realistic understanding of the country. I also reconnected with my culture, from reexperiencing traditions and local foods to getting more confident in my Chinese which is an asset for me now that I want to work there in the future. I also got to work closely with professors in a super well-run department and program and made friends that will last a lifetime.

Admin, academic counselors, and professors were all super helpful in a timely manner. Program was very well-run and organized. |

Great dorms, great facilities including kitchen and gym. Clean, new, and had security guards so felt safe at all times. |

No complaints, great Chinese food. Western food offerings were pretty good too. |

How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
A part of my background is in China so I naturally felt integrated with the location and culture, and got used to the things new to me very quickly. |

How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
School has health services and counseling services, which I both used in my time there. Both were amazing, even better (more comprehensive, helpful, timely and easier to book appointments) than even my home school. |

Never felt unsafe on campus/in dorm/in the city. |

Very easy. School housing and meals were cheaper than my home school's. Also the food and home goods in China are cheaper. |

The program professor was amazing. It inspired me to pick up Chinese again and seriously improve, rather than to just do it for the requirement. I learned so much and feel more confident in my language abilities. |
