Norwegian School of Management: Oslo - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I meet a lot of great people who live in 33 different countries. It definitely allowed me to learn about other cultures and how to work with them in a school and business environment. I hope to visit some of my friends in their home countries.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I really liked the school and professors. I think that the course work was appropriate and that the social activities they planed were good and really allowed you to explore Oslo. The program set up also allowed for you to take weekend trips, which was nice. I was able to go to Stavanger (another town in Norway) and take the ferry to Copenhagen.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

This program definitely met my expectations. The program administration was a little slow getting the information out to us before we left but once there they were very knowledgable and helpful. There were about 90 international students in the program, which i think was a good size becasue i was able to meet everyone and recognize faces wheather they became my friends or not. Everyone got along really well.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

We were in charge of our own food. The program provided maybe one meal a day. This is one thing that I did not understand fully before going and that you need to budget for. Norway is expensive but you can eat on a budget. All of the supper markets around the school are good. The one in the Nydalen mall is probably the best.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

My program organized one social activity each weekend, except for one that they left open for us to be free to do whatever we wanted. We used that weekend to go to Copenhagen. We went sightseeing the first weekend, then had a daytrip to an old cobalt mine, had a hiking trip, barbeque and some other fun activities. I would recommend going on as many of the weekend social activities as possible they are all really good.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I felt very safe in Oslo and at school. We always used public transportation which is clean and easy to use. I think it took us a day to figure out how to get around. I was there when the bombing and shooting occured and I still felt safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I think that any student could benifit from this program. It is a business class but you can get through it even if you are not a business major. If you want a summer program that you will learn a lot and don't have the burden of needing to learn the language this is a great program. You will make friends from all over the world.
