We will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Machu Picchu and the participate in eco-focused community development projects with the Uros people living on floating islands on Lake Titicaca. Description: Survey of the influence of African people throughout Latin America: Culture; music, language, religion and dance; examination of slavery, colonialism, resistance and independence movements in the region. June 1-11, 2020 (Travel), March 2-May 22, 2020 (online, Laney College) Service learning project will be predicated on serving a local indigenous community in Peru and working side by side on a project that will focus on self-sustainability. Cost: $2,500 (Flight included) Additional Expenses not included: Travel insurance, passport (if you do not have one already), and enrollment fees for Afram 18 or M/LAT 32 (3 units). Single room option is available. PAYMENT DETAILS/REFUND SCHEDULE: February 28, 2020: $500 (Non-Refundable Deposit). Deposit will only be refunded if the course is cancelled due to low enrollment. March 27, 2020: $1,000 (2nd Payment) April 24, 2020: $1,000 (Final Payment)
