Regent’s University London: Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Europe is amazing. However I learned that you really need to look into the cracks and fine print when looking at something this big.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

These classes were a waste of my time. They weren't even the classes I wanted to take, but was put into them because they were the only options after they canceled my selected ones.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Christian, the main advisor was nice and helpful. However, everyone else I dealt with during my experience was rude, inconvenienced, and unhelpful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

THIS IS THE WORST LIVING SITUATION EVER!!!! We were a 20 minute SUBWAY ride from campus at Pure Highpury. The rooms were scorching hot without a/c (to the point were I covered myself with a wet towel to help me fall asleep) and the building was located right next to a very loud and obnoxious train yard. The loud trains went by every 10 minutes. The people at the "security desk" were unprofessional an rude. We were (unexpectedly) required to pay for our own transportation which cost about 30 pounds weekly (~$50). Regent's didn't bother to help pay for this either. After seven weeks were were required to leave Pure and move to campus for the remaining 3 weeks. This was a hassle as well, and not worth the move with only 3 weeks left.

* Food:

We were required to pay and cook our own food, which is fine - if I was prepared for this, but we were told we would have a meal plan so I wasn't prepaid and never ended up receiving one. London is super expensive, and again this was an unexpected expense.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Pure did not hold any social activities throughout our stay. Everyone in our program was scattered throughout the building so I never saw anyone.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I didn't have any health/health care related problems

* Safety:

The neighborhood Pure Highbury was in was not a good area. Very rundown and ghetto. However once we moved to campus it was much better. London as a whole is a safe city.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Since food and transportation was unexpected, I was constantly asking my parents for more money

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 50 Pounds

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
