An Incredible Journey Past Review
By A student (Fashion Merchandising., Fontbonne University) - abroad from 06/16/2014 to 07/25/2014 with
Regent’s University London: Direct Enrollment & Exchange
Not only did I become further educated in fashion during my time abroad, but I learned more of myself. Countless memories, experiences to last a lifetime, and lessons learned is what I achieved by studying abroad. I would definitely do it again, if given the chance.

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | 2 weeks - 1 month |
Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The courses were intense, both in assigned work load and content. Resources provided, such as the library, were great. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
All staff I encountered from the Study Abroad office at Regent's University were more than helpful and encouraging. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
My stay at Pure Highbury in Islington provided me with all I could ask and more. The location was close enough to campus, just a short tube ride, and well as being a good location for seeing the rest of London. Amenities nearby were plenty, and good for a college student's budget. The rooms were clean, spacious, and the facilities offered were great. I enjoyed the 24 hour gym and security. I had an issue with my shower not working when I first arrived in London, and they were helpful and apologetic, providing me with another room to shower in. Overall, I would return to Pure if I was given the choice. |
* Food: |
Not applicable. No food/meal plan was provided. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
I felt completely immersed in the culture. Using the Tube, visiting museums, shopping in grocery stores, and living my life as though I lived in London (permanently) helped me feel part of the city. I felt very comfortable in London by the time my departure date arrived. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
A classmate of mine had health issues during our time abroad, and from what I know of the situation it was handled by Regent's faculty and the housing coordinator very well. |
* Safety: |
I never felt unsafe in any part of London I was in. Pure Highbury and both of Regent's campuses provided me with feelings of security. I do feel the 24 hour security at Pure Highbury helped me feel safe at my place of housing. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
The amount of money I spent on school supplies while abroad was a lot more than I anticipated. Especially with the conversion rate from USD to GBP, it made my time abroad somewhat expensive. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | 50-70 pounds |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Buying food and other meals at grocery stores, such as Lidl, can help to cut back on expenses. I dined out only a handful of times, mostly for brunch, and that cut back on my overall food costs. |

Instructor: | Yvonne Deacon |

Comments: | This course was extremely challenging. Most of my time was spent working on this course in the library provided. Class time was rarely beneficial, or used for instruction. Class often began late, and any scheduled field trips in the syllabus were disregarded. I was not provided with my grade in this class other than mid-term, and still do not know what final grade I received. The instructor was at times offensive and insulting, and had trouble educating the class. |
