My experience was what I made of it Past Review

Regent’s University London: Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
The best parts of my experience had nothing to do with the program in which I was enrolled. It was the traveling around Europe and exploring London that made my experience worthwhile. I have learned that a lot of things do not go according to the original plan, but you need to take a step back and decide how you are going to fix things and move on.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Fairfield University and the professors at my school expect a lot more from me than Regent's University did. I had about three assignments in each class for the entire semester, and since I was receiving a transfer credit I felt as if I did not have to try very hard.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I felt like a freshman again. I was placed in a dorm that was isolated from the rest of the student body.

* Food:

There was only one option per meal, usually consisting of lamb. It was not accommodating to students of other cultures.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I feel as if I had minimal interaction with the British.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

n/a

* Safety:

I never once felt as if I was in danger.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The dining hall was closed on Saturday nights, and nobody had informed me of this before I went. I had to spend money on dinner every saturday night, and the food was so terrible that I often ate out because I could not eat what was offered.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 300
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Save as much as you can.

* What could be improved?
  • Food
  • Housing
  • Staff
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew more about the school, because I honestly thought it was a waste of my time. If I knew what I know now about Regent's, I would have chosen another location.
