Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

S is the equivalent to an A, A is an equivalent to a B, etc...

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Accessibility/Support Services-The International Office staff were always available to help, but their assistance with us was very limited due to the bureaucracy of the university. Ability to get things done-very limiting within the school, it takes time but things will get done eventually. Patience is a virtue. Knowledge about host country and American higher education - very low or close to none. Program size-Incoming class for the semester: 3 from America, 1 from Germany, 2 from Singapore, 20+ from Taiwan, a handful from Korea.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Single dormitory. There is minimal or close to no residential life.

* Food:

Difficult for vegetarians. Quality/quantity of food-school cafeteria food quality is better than decent. Food quantity in all of the country is less compared to American and Europe.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Little on-campus student life.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Japan is extremely safe. The city is a suburb so it is extremely safe. There is more danger in Tokyo.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $150 You can live cheaply but you won't be doing fun things, eating good food, etc. Transportation and eating out adds up. It depends on what you do.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? The university did not inform me ahead of time for dormitory fees. It was required that we pay in cash and demanded it immediately upon arrival. There was no way this was possible so we had to withdraw the maximum amount from the ATM each day. They would not accept any other form of payment.
