About
RSAP was founded in September 2002 with a mission to provide "Study Abroad" opportunities for current RSA upper-level graduate and Fifth-Year Bachelor of Architecture Program students. The selected students are housed in rented furnished apartments, located in close proximity to RSAP. In addition to an advanced design studio on urban issues, students are given lectures and seminars on History, Theory, Technology, Materials and Methods. An intense documentary film-making course is also part of the curriculum, as are French language and culture instruction. A weeklong organized travel tour to other cities in France and Europe is an integral component of the program. Students receive 16 hours credit equivalent to a normal semester at RSA in Houston. Rice faculty participates in the instruction of these courses augmented by many leading European practitioners, historians, and theoreticians. Assistant Director Garry White is responsible for the day-to-day management of RSAP, overseen by Director John J. Casbarian.
