Studying Abroad and Working in London Past Review
By Emma P (International Business., Rollins College) for
Rollins College: London - London Internship Program
I think every big experience such as going abroad is worthwhile. I was able to learn a lot from my internship and being in England for almost 4 months it was really interesting to pick up on all the cultural differences.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The workload is heavy in reading but very lighht in terms of number of assessments. The grading system is also extremely different and the highest mark students at London universities expect is a 75, which is considered a first, equivalent to an A in the US. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
|
* Food: |
I think it is a common thing for people to think the food in England is not the best. I would agree with this in terms of pub food. However, there are great places to eat other than just British establishments. Particularly really good Indian and Italian places. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
No
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | The cost of living is much higher in London than in most cities within the US. A student should expect to spend significantly more money than they would at home. |
Language
How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | None |
