What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was extremely worthwhile! I learned more about myself and life in general in the 5 months that I was abroad, then I ever have in my entire life!

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Extremely satisfied! RMIT Village was AMAZING!

* Food:

With our living arrangements we were responsible for preparing our own meals so however well you were able to cook and prepare meals for yourself, would depend on how satisfied you would be with the food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Extremely!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

While I myself did not ever have to seek any medical attention, it was still always easily accessible and if I ever did need to seek treatment I always knew exactly where I could go.

* Safety:

I always felt extremely safe while out in Melbourne. Like in any city however though, you need to be aware of your surroundings and never travel anywhere alone at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? $70 in the beginning, but then about $100 towards the end of the semester.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Be mindful of how often you eat out. Preparing your own meals saves you a great deal of money! Also be very careful with how much alcohol you purchase when you go out. It adds up very quickly without even realizing it!

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The people I met abroad.
  • My new found independence.
  • Traveling in general, and seeing so much more of the world.
* What could be improved?
  • Different classes should be required (ones that teach you more about your host country).
  • More preparation for returning home.
  • The option to spend two semesters, rather than being limited to only one.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew that no amount of time would be enough time to do everything that I wanted to do, and to aim to spend as much time abroad as possible.

Course Department: accounting
Instructor: Greg McLeod
Instruction Language: English
Comments: Greg was an awesome professor! He was always very conscious of the fact that I was a study abroad student, and not actually from Australia and always took the extra time to explain things that he knew I would not be extremely familiar with, like the other students in his class were. It made asking questions extremely easy and comfortable!
