By A student (Sarah Lawrence College) - abroad from 10/01/2013 to 06/29/2014 with
Sarah Lawrence College: Oxford - Sarah Lawrence in Oxford
I learned a lot about myself as a critical thinker and writer. It was definitely worthwhile.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The educational experience was everything I hoped it would be (and more), to be honest. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The program administrators were nice enough, but not always particularly helpful. Their administrative style was more scolding/disciplinarian than welcoming/helpful and they weren't especially amenable to criticism, though perhaps this will change in the coming years. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
Excellent. Would have been nice to be closer to campus, but this isn't really possible. |
* Food: |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Extremely integrated! Though this up to the individual. Integration comes with hard work. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
|
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Oxford is a very expensive place. When you factor in the exchange rate, everything is about twice as expensive. It's pretty much up the individual to manage your money well. Some expenses are worth it though -- for example, I bought a bike, which not only was extremely helpful during my time at Oxford, but I was able to sell it at the end of the year. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $75-100 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | Just keep track of how much your saving, and don't be too stingy -- take advantage of the time you have. |
