About

Cross an entire ocean... Join the ranks of world-class sailors and pre-19th century world travelers. You will cross the second-largest ocean from North America to Ireland in this exciting and adventurous 4-week summer program. Choose from coursework in either leadership or oceanographic research while making the crossing, a culturally significant event given the role it played in the expansion of Western Civilization to the New World. No sailing experience required!

Who Should Apply?

All majors- ideal for the undergraduate with an interest in the oceans.  You may choose either a science of leadership track, offering you flexibility in project topics and transfer credit.

Academic Credit

3-4 semester credit hours from Boston University upon successful completion of the program.

SEA Semester is dedicated to making your experience affordable. We grant over one million dollars of financial aid every year, and meet all demonstrated need.

One award per year available to a deserving Journalism major.

Must be a Journalism major in good academic standing.

For Bermuda students enrolled in SEA Semester, SEA will match the scholarship value for any student who receives an award from The National Transportation Board or the Bermuda Zoological Association.

One award is available per each SEA Semester class for a student from one of the five colleges in the "5-College Consortium" (Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, Amherst College, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Hampshire College).

A faculty nomination is required via the Five-College Faculty Nomination form (downloadable on SEA Semester website).

One award per year is available to a resident of Canada participating in a SEA Semester.
