What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
My study abroad experiences were most definitely worthwhile. They gave me the travel bug and I went on to do more traveling to more countries after my study abroad trips. They gave me the confidence to dive right into a new country and a new culture and make the most out of it.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

In France, Group Sup de Co was a really good university for their language program. The professor was kind and patient with the students. She used a variety of teaching methods to help the students learn. In South Korea, at Sejong University, the program was a lot of fun. We went on trips and met other students. The professors were intelligent in their fields.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Both programs in South Korea and in France had really good support systems in English for the students. The programs were small and familiar. The professors were knowledgeable and helpful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My university arranged housing for the students in both programs. We were in the middle of a city, but we were safe. We were given emergency information at the beginning of our trip. In France, I had a host family and they were very kind to me. They took good care of me and helped me stay in contact with my family back in the USA. I also still keep in touch with them.

* Food:

The food was good in both countries. Sometimes our professors would take us out and sometimes we would be allowed to go out on our own.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

In Korea, we went as a group to the DMZ - the border between North and South Korea - and we went to different cities for festivals and cultural events. In France, we traveled to different cities with our classmates for cultural events.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

In both countries, if we were sick, we had various options provided for us. We didn't need any vaccinations for the programs and there were no health issues at the time of my trips.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

My study abroad trip to France, we stayed with host families who did not speak English and our classes were never in English. We were also taken out weekly with our professor and classmates out into the city to use our French.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
