Semester at Sea Study Abroad: Make the World Your Campus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Um...was it ever! I now want to travel all around the world and continue my learning experience. And they have also made me want to partake in making a difference in this world!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Workload is manageable, grading system is fair, the teaching methods are amazing because we are learning and applying what we have seen or what we are going to experience in that particular country, it just has so much relevance.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Everything is all amazing. All of the faculty are completely opened to talking about anything with students, from experiences to struggles to so much more. There is nothing I would change.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

For housing on the ship I was in a little cabin with one other girl and it was pretty perfect. We had full steward service. While in port it ranged from hostels, to hotels, to home stays.

* Food:

They are very accommodating for food stuff, but it is just slim pickings. The food was probably the worst part of the trip just because there were not that many options, however, while in port the food was amazing!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

the community of the ship is so close knit that it just makes the program exciting and fun. There are so many adventures that you get to have with such a wide variety of people from so many different backgrounds all together exploring the world together.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Semester at Sea is really careful and is extremely aware of our safety. They really do a good job at preparing us and also giving us the tools for certain situations if they were to pop up.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Well I didn't spend money every week, just in port. It differed per port and the extent of time that I was there, but I spent between $100-150 per port.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Just come in with an overall plan of how much you want to spend in each country.
