Semester at Sea Study Abroad: Make the World Your Campus

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained many things from my semester at sea but what I learned that I think will stick with me is how universal this world is. It was amazing to see how easy it was too connect with people from other cultures. I have gained more of a want to learn about the different cultures and communities that make up our world and I am interested to see how I can give back. I gained more interest in world news and politics. I have learned how to be more independent and it was the most amazing experience I have ever had in my entire life!

Be being in a living and learning community, you get to know your professors on a very personal level. They really care about the topics they are teaching about and by traveling with them you are able to see how your topics in class relate to the world around us.

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The people I met
  • The variety of the countries we visited. They were all unique and different from one another.
  • how the classes directly corelated to what we were experiencing during our time in the different countries.
* What could be improved?
  • better preperation before the voyage
  • more integration between international students and American students
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? I wish I knew how to pack lighter because most of the things i brought were irrelevant and I never wore. I also wish I had done some research on each of the countries I visited so that I was a little more knowledgeable about them before I got there.

The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
