Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The most challenging aspect of the university was understanding the way the classes ran. Their class system is very different from American universities. They have a lecture and then a seminar each week and in most classes, the grade is based on one major project at the end of the semester. |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
Sheffield Hallam was absolutely amazing with getting me acquainted with other foreign students and with the university. They offered many different events and activities where we can make friends. They were very active in the foreign students lives and very accommodating. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I made all of the housing arrangements myself. I opted not to utilize Sheffield's housing, but they provided me with a list of possible landlords to contact. My landlords were not the best and kind of screwed us over and I very much regretted living with other Americans. If I could go back, I would try to live with English or other international students. |
* Food: |
Around the corner from our house there was a cheap grocery store called Netto. I bought all of my groceries I needed there. I didn't go to any of the cafeterias on campus, but there was a nice pub right by the main building called the Coney and it had great food. |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
One of the first activities the program provided us was a walk in the Peak district. We met a bunch of people during our seven mile walk. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
|
* Safety: |
The city was very safe. The only incident I heard of when I was in Sheffield was my next door neighbor was mugged on my street. After that I felt a little unsafe, but that feeling was quickly gone. As far as health issues were addressed, I don't remember hearing anything about their health services. Luckily, I didn't need any health services. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | Fluent |

A Look Back
* What did you like most about the program? |
|
* What could be improved? |
|
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? | My words of wisdom would be to take advantage of every second in Sheffield because time flies by! Most of my friends at Sheffield Hallam were other international students. I think anyone who enjoys learning about different cultures would love this program because it gives you so many opportunities to learn from other foreign students. |
