Amazing time abroad June 28, 2023
By Jenavier T (Biology and Biomedical Sciences, Denison University) - abroad from 02/24/2023 to 06/07/2023 with
SIT Study Abroad: Argentina - Public Health in Urban Environments
I gained a lot of experience within the profession I want to pursue, but also within the culture of Argentina. This has really made me want to explore other countries and get to know them as well.
Personal Information
| How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? | None |
Review Your Program
|
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The education abroad was very through for this program. We learned a ton about the history of Argentina up until the Health Care System. It was a lot of learning. |
|
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
The team was very helpful and supportive throughout the program. I'm glad to have been with them. Everyone is very friendly and kind. |
|
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
I loved my host family, I plan to go back soon to visit them one day. No problems with them at all. |
| * Food: |
There is a lot of Italian influence on their food and so expect to eat lots of pasta, empanadas, and milanesas. After a little I was getting tired of the food, but it wasn't hard to find other types of food there since the city is so big, |
|
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
Everyone I met always treated me with care, and kindness. |
|
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
I haven't had any personal experience with the healthcare, so I can't say much. |
| * Safety: |
Being that it is a big city, pickpocketing and robberies are pretty high. This would be the only downside to the city, but this also happens in many other cities in the world. |
| If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
|
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
Very easy, $30 on food and personal expenses a week (depending) |
Language
| * Did your program have a foreign language component? | Yes |
|
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?
0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language |
All the time |
| How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? | Intermediate |
| How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? | Advanced |
| How many hours per day did you use the language? | 10+ |
| Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Just be open to practicing. |
