SIT Study Abroad: Belgrade, Budapest, and Vienna - Comparative European Perspectives on Conflict and Democracy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I've been abroad a few times before this experience, so I couldn't help but compare and contrast my experiences with each other. However, this semester was overall great and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a semester in a city that's not traditionally chosen by US college kids!

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? -eat with your host family for all the meals they feel comfortable covering (it's a great way to save and also spend time with your host family) -try to use public transport as much as possible (limit taxis/cabs) -buy yourself lunch ingredients and store them where you're staying, so that you don't have to eat out for lunch every day! -find cheap/free activities to do in your free time: visit parks, cheap museums (in Belgrade they were many around $3), find local bars and coffee spots with life music where you can get a drink and hang out, instead of paying an entry fee.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you.
The Nearly Native or Trail Blazer
Craving the most authentic experience possible, perhaps you lived with a host family or really got in good with the locals. You may have felt confined by your program requirements and group excursions. Instead, you'd have preferred to plan your own trips, even skipping class to conduct your own 'field work.'
