Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I absolutely loved this study abroad program, and would recommend it highly to anyone considering exploring public health in a meaningful way! The coursework was very manageable with LOTS of real world experience, and the program really integrates you both into Chilean life and traditional medicine practice. My host family was incredible, I loved the cohort of students I was privileged to study abroad with, and I have zero regrets about the experience! If you want to get out of your comfort zone and come away with a life-changing public health experience, this is the program for you!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The on-site program admin honestly make the program - they are so kind and helpful and they go out of their way every day to make sure you feel at home! I never had any issues and had their full support the whole time I was there.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved my homestay family and we keep in touch to this day. I was living the farthest away from the program homebase (where we take classes at a local university, etc) and still had an incredible time and hung out with friends lots!

* Food:

I am by no means a picky eater, and so this program was simple for me. Keep in mind with a program like this there will be many occasions through which your different host families (particularly on excursions) will have only one option for meals. But the programs make sure that all dietary restrictions and allergies are adapted for! Just be ready to try some new things :)

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt pretty integrated with the local culture, in part because of my homestay family and in part because the program does a great job of doing that, including introducing us to local university students our age who we were able to get to know and hang out with!

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no experiences with health issues, but friends who did were able to get all their needs met. The in-country system highly prioritizes primary healthcare, so it is really feasible to have mostly all health issues addressed. The program insurance worked really well for students who needed it, and local program admin are super on top of any issues and make sure they get addressed as necessary!

* Safety:

I never had any issues with safety! It is just basic street smarts that you might consider in any other city!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The program provides a stipend for all expenses you may need (like transportation around the city or occasional meals) and host families provide the rest!

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Fluent
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Fluent
