SIT Study Abroad: IHP - Cities in the 21st Century: People, Planning and Politics (Fall 2)
It was amazing. I learned so much about myself and about other cultures. I learned about the biases and privileges I carry with me as an American.

Review Your Program
* Overall educational experience
Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc. |
The academics in this program are more challenging that most study abroad programs. This is NOT a party abroad, but rather an amazing international educational experience (with plenty of fun, too). |
* Host Country Program Administration
On-site administration of your program |
This varied from place to place, but the coordinators did a great job welcoming us to each place. We also had faculty travel with us, who were in charge of much of the coordination. |
* Housing:
How satisfied were you with your living arrangements? |
The living arrangements vary from place to place, but you will always be in a comfortable home with a family. This is part of the experience. |
* Food: |
So many amazing culinary opportunities! |
* Social & Cultural Integration:
How integrated did you feel with the local culture? |
You will realize that you cannot be integrated with another place's culture. You are there to learn as much as you can about individuals and about the world. |
* Health Care:
How well were health issues addressed during the program? |
Our fellow kept us healthy and helped us arrange doctor visits. Be sure to get all of the vaccines/medications you need! |
* Safety: |
The cities you travel to are somewhat unsafe, but the hosts do a great job briefing you on dangers and safety tips. Be cautious. |
If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
|
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
You spend as much or as little as you like. The only thing you absolutely need to pay for is lunches. |
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $50 maximum |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | The amount you spend is up to you, but in general, Brazil is most expensive, South Africa is moderate, and Vietnam is very low cost. |
