Life Changing Past Review
By A student (Middlebury College) - abroad from 01/31/2015 to 05/14/2016 with
SIT Study Abroad: Panama - Tropical Ecology, Marine Ecosystems, and Biodiversity Conservation
I learned so much about environmental studies topics, biology, Spanish and human ecology. I was able to learn about issues facing the tropics and the world, as well as the local culture, local issues, and conservation tactics. I learned field study methods and ethnographic research methods. I also learned a lot about myself and what I was capable of. It was the most worthwhile thing I have ever done.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? |
Yes
I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. The program was very challenging but very rewarding. I was able to do things that I would never have been able to do on my own. I was able to learn from local experts and do research and hands on experiments for the entirety of the program. I was also able to grow personal connections to the issues that we were studying and was able to gain a deeper understanding of the topics and issues than I ever could have from text books or classes back at Middlebury. |
Finances
* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?
(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost) |
|
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? | $40 |
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? | The program makes it very easy to spend as little of your own money as you want. All meals are provided and a stipend is provided to the students when the student is away from the program. The only money I spent was on personal purchases and gifts. |

Do you have any tips/advice on the best ways to practice the language for future study abroad participants? | Make sure you practice before you go but the main thing is practicing with your homestay families as much as possible while there. The best way to learn was from using my Spanish in country |

Reasons For Studying Abroad
To help future students find programs attended by like-minded individuals, please choose the profile that most closely represents you. |
The Avid AdventurerThe wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal. |
